Raising Dart Frog Tadpoles
Complete tadpole rearing guide from egg to metamorphosis.
Tadpole Container Setup
House each tadpole individually in 16–32 oz containers with aged RO or distilled water. Add an Indian almond leaf for tannins and beneficial compounds. Keep containers at the species' preferred temperature.
Feeding Tadpoles
Feed daily with a quality tadpole food, powdered spirulina, or crushed fish flakes. Avoid overfeeding — water should remain clear. Remove uneaten food during water changes.
Water Changes
Perform 50% water changes every 2–3 days using aged water matched to container temperature. Never use tap water without dechlorination. Clean containers if algae buildup occurs.
Metamorphosis
Front legs appear first, followed by absorption of the tail. Transfer morphs to a small terrestrial container with moist paper towel and leaf litter. Begin feeding fruit flies within 3–5 days of full metamorphosis.
